Punica granatum 'Austin'. This superior cultivar was found growing in Austin TX by way of Syria. It's a Texas fruit in every way--it's big, it's prodigiously juicy, it's tasty and it will outproduce just about any other variety of pomegranate. Even the arils are big and yet they tumble easily out of the cut fruit. A single tree has been known to yield 200 pounds of fruit. Ripens mid to late season. Does best in hot summer areas. As of July 2018 plants are about 3' tall, bushy, a few flowers. Grown in 2 gal containers.
